The Youth Empowerment Project is a youth-led project that aims to reduce suicidal behavior and substance use among Native youth up to 24 years old. Informed by a Youth Council, the program engages youth in pro-social activities and suicide and substance use prevention education to build resiliency, problem-solving, and healthy coping. The program coordinator and clinical therapist also provide suicide, mental health, and crisis support education and clinical services. The project is funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Native Connections grant.
